Using academic areas of inquiry as departure points for examining contradictions within the American cultural value system, this work is a synthesis of image and sound designed to evoke simultaneous euphoria and dis-ease. Relying on juxtapositions to engage viewers, this video is an exploration into cause and effect, call and response.
John Davis lives in San Francisco working with video, film, photography, and sound. He received his BS in Anthropology from Loyola University in Chicago in 1995, and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1999. His artwork exhibits both throughout the United States and internationally, and has earned various prizes and awards.
His visual art follows investigations into American culture, while his audio works are in the tradition of contemporary electronic music. John’s work is a synthesis of ideas that find expression in various media, owing as much to contemporary fine art traditions as to academic ones.
