PDX_01
‘pdx_01’ was composed and produced by NomIg. (Ed Jordan and Stephanie MacKay). It is an example of our compositional technique, where the audio and the video are treated as one synchronous set. We feel that this technique is integral to the development of audiovisual art as a medium. It is important to recognize that audiovisual art is not just an extension of experimental film or of the music video, but is a medium in itself. It is a place where compositional techniques envelop all aspects of the work as opposed to segregating them to their respective corners. These techniques can be seen as the audio and video ebb and flow in a choreographed dance – at times their dance is synchronized and at other times their movements differ, while always acting as a compliment to each other.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
NomIg. was initially formed as a collective exploration into the nature and relationship of sight and sound. Originally adhering to the process of mixing visuals to music, NomIg. realized that the potential of these two mediums went beyond what was currently being practiced. Influenced by collaborations with film artists, NomIg. began applying compositional techniques, usually reserved for music, to digital video. What resulted was an awareness of a symbiotic relationship between sight and sound; not only a symbiosis in their unification, but also in editing, post-production and performance techniques as well. Sometimes dreamy, sometimes jarring; their pieces materialize the elusive symbiosis of sight and sound.

Their work has been recognized at festivals, galleries, exhibitions, clubs and universities around the world; including England, Spain, Greece, Italy, the United States, and online where they continue to perform live, every week, on Ninjatune’s PirateTV.net. They are also members of the Toronto group Recorded Skies.
