Working within the format of the video screen Paul Emmanuel uses paint in its simplest form. His compulsive real-time animation of paint on camera puts modernist ideals of paint in a context of attention disorders. Using time, sound and volume the paintings are displacements of paint from tubes, pots or tubs bought from art stores: The action of formalized methods and techniques of painting play with place and context to re-think accepted norms and structures of cultural transmission and reception.

Paul Emmanuel is a graduate of Goldsmiths College, University of London and has worked in Albania, Germany, Kosovo, Spain, the US, and Asia. His solo shows include the Laurent Delaye Gallery, London, the Mission Gallery, Wales and most recently in Taiwan at Stock 20, Taichung and Sly Art, Taipei. Selected group shows include Ffresh 1 at Chapter Arts Centre, Wales; Physical Evidence at Kettles Yard, Cambridge [traveled to Djanogly Gallery, Nottingham]; A New Generation at Openspace in Milan; Unfinished Business with Volcano Theatre Company; Elsewhere at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in Wales, and Anniversary at Stock 20, Taichung. He will be exhibiting at New Field Art, Taipei, in December.
